Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has explained why his team defeated Arsenal 2–1 in the Premier League on Saturday.
Recall that a late goal from Emi Buendia ensured Emery’s side defeated Arsenal.
Matty Cash and Leandro Trossard also scored during the encounter at Villa Park.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the game, Emery said Aston Villa dominated the Gunners at some point during the encounter, got in the box, and were aggressive against the visitors.
The former Paris Saint-Germain coach also hailed Aston Villa fans for giving the team energy during the match.
“I’m so happy. We finished this week really playing like we need to – competing, demanding things from ourselves, adapting to our opponents and playing with personality,” Emery said.
“We are dominating sometimes and getting in the box, we are being intense and aggressive when needed.
“Villa Park is special, the supporters transmit the energy to us. How they responded is fantastic.
“We are going to focus game by game, we know that is the only way if we are trying to focus on each competition. We want to play well in the Europa League, but the Premier League is our first priority.”
