Liverpool captain, Virgil van Dijk has revealed he told referee, Michael Olivier he lost control of the Premier League derby between the Reds and Everton on Wednesday.

Liverpool were on the brink of going nine points clear at the top of the Premier League after Mohamed Salah’s strike 14 minutes from time in the derby at Goodison Park.

But the hosts equalized, thanks to James Tarkowski’s stunning strike deep into added time sparked delirious celebrations for the home supporters.

The final whistle followed shortly after with more chaos erupting after Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucoure decided to celebrate in front of the travelling Liverpool fans, shushing the away supporters.

Speaking after the game, Van Dijk told TNT Sport: “We saw how they celebrated the goal and they have all the right to. But Doucoure in the end, wanted to provoke our friends. That is what I saw and Curtis didn’t think that was the right thing to do.

“We know what happens when there is a little tussle but I think the ref didn’t have the game under control and I said it to him.

“Both teams have to deal with it. We take the point and move on.”

The result leaves Liverpool seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table ahead of second place Arsenal.

Arne Slot’s side will face Wolves in their next game on Sunday at Anfield.
