Former Manchester United and England defender, Gary Neville, has mentioned the only way Arsenal could win the league this season.
Nevile is backing the Gunners to end their wait for the Premier League title but insisted that it lies on the decisions being made by Mikel Arteta, the Gunners’ boss.
He said that the north London side must step up their game to show that they are serious contenders for the EPL title, while questioning Arteta’s tactics, especially in a recent game against Manchester City.
Arteta dropped the likes of Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Martinelli on the bench in favour of Mikel Merino and Leandro Trossard in their last outing.
Erling Haaland put City ahead after only nine minutes but Eze and Martinelli who came on only in the second half combined to rescue a point for the hosts.
Neville told The Overlap that Arteta needs to get serious, suggesting that Arsenal players are aware their manager is making the wrong moves.
“I don’t think 60,000 or 70,000 fans can be wrong in how they feel and I don’t think any of us who were in the studio or in that stadium can be wrong either.
“I guarantee you that the dressing room, straight away, are looking at him and thinking, ‘Hmm, you’ve done it the same again, you’ve done it at Anfield and a little bit at Old Trafford, but certainly at Anfield.’
“He could have been more attacking at Anfield and he wasn’t and certainly against City from the start he could have been more attacking.
“He’s going to regret this if he doesn’t start to take the handbrake off.
“I think he picks the most defensive teams he possibly can at times in big games.
“Everybody is saying the same thing, they’re on to something,” Neville continued.
“I said Arsenal would win the league. We’re actually wanting them to step up and we’re actually saying that we think this team can step up.”
Liverpool have taken the early lead in the Premier League race, opening five points lead in the table after five matches.
Arsenal travel to Newcastle United this weekend where they will hope to return to winning ways.
