Grammy-winning Nigerian artist, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has once again ignited social media buzz after making a bold claim about his musical standing.
During his first-ever appearance on Twitch with streamer PlaqueBoyMax, the Afrobeats megastar confidently declared that the late Fela Anikulapo Kuti is the only artist greater than him.
Vibing to one of Fela’s classic songs and singing along word for word, Burna Boy said with a grin, “Fela is the king. He’s the only one greater than me,” before referring to himself as “001 of the Afrobeats industry.”
The comment quickly went viral, sparking a mix of admiration and controversy among fans. While many applauded Burna for acknowledging Fela’s unmatched influence and legacy, others criticized him for what they saw as excessive pride a familiar debate surrounding the “African Giant.”
Burna Boy’s reverence for Fela Kuti isn’t new. He has consistently described the Afrobeat legend as his greatest inspiration and creative muse, often channeling Fela’s rebellious energy and consciousness through his own modern, global sound.
With this latest statement, Burna may have unintentionally reignited the long-standing “Big Three” rivalry involving Wizkid, Davido, and himself.
As clips from the Twitch session continue to dominate timelines, one thing remains certain Burna Boy isn’t just talking about greatness; he’s actively living it, continuing to define his legacy as one of Africa’s most fearless and influential music icons.
