Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández has issued a public apology to the club following his two-match suspension for remarks regarding his future and preference for living in Madrid.

The 24-year-old expressed regret over statements made in interviews and on a Twitch stream, acknowledging the disappointment caused among teammates, fans, and club officials.

“I want to say sorry to the Chelsea board, my teammates, and all the fans for what I said recently and everything that followed. My comments don’t truly show how committed I am to Chelsea Football Club,” Fernández said in a statement released on Sunday.

He added: “I understand why people are disappointed, especially because of my role at the club. Playing for Chelsea is something I’m proud of and I respect it deeply.

“I accept the club’s decision and the two-match ban. I take full responsibility for my actions and I’m ready to learn from this experience. Right now, my focus is to keep working hard, regain your trust, and give my best every time I step on the pitch. Chelsea is where I am, and I’m fully dedicated to fighting for this team and the fans every single day.”

Controversy over Madrid remarks

The suspension followed Fernández’s earlier comments during a Twitch stream, where he said: “I’d like to live in Spain. I really like Madrid; it reminds me of Buenos Aires… the food, everything.

“I get by in English, but I’d be more comfortable in Spanish.” He had also expressed uncertainty about staying at Chelsea after the club’s Champions League exit to Paris Saint-Germain, telling ESPN Argentina: “I don’t know, there are eight games left and the FA Cup. There’s the World Cup and then we’ll see.”

Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior described the remarks as disappointing, with disciplinary action agreed across the club to protect its internal culture.

Fernández has already missed the FA Cup quarter-final against Port Vale and will be unavailable for the Premier League clash with Manchester City on April 12.

Rebuilding trust ahead of key fixtures

The apology comes as Fernández looks to restore confidence within the dressing room and reaffirm his commitment during a crucial stage of Chelsea’s season.

The club now prepares for the remaining fixtures in both domestic and European competitions, relying on the midfielder to focus fully on team objectives.
