Media entrepreneur and EbonyLife Media CEO, Mo Abudu, has revealed that she has no intention of promoting her films through dance videos, noting that the strategy does not align with her personality or personal strengths.
Speaking at the Lagos Business of Film Summit, Abudu reflected on the evolving nature of film marketing in Nigeria and how promotional strategies continue to adapt to audience behavior.
She commended filmmakers Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham for successfully using energetic dance routines as part of their movie promotion campaigns, acknowledging their effectiveness in drawing large audiences to cinemas.
However, Abudu clarified that while she respects the approach, she neither possesses the energy nor the skill required to execute such promotional tactics herself.
The media mogul added that she has already informed her team that dancing will not be part of her personal publicity efforts, stressing that such responsibilities can be delegated to others if necessary.
According to Abudu, the Nigerian film industry must recognise that there is no universal formula for box office success.
“I look at people, Funke and Toyin, and I’m like, I don’t know where they get the energy to do all of this,” Abudu said.
“I have told my team, me I can’t dance. So go and look for someone who will do the dancing because it is not going to be me.”
“We have to understand what it requires now for there to be a box office success in Nigeria.”
