Daniel Daga has reportedly been sentenced to six months in prison by the Nordmøre and Romsdal District Court after being found guilty of committing a sexual act without consent.

This was contained in a report by Bold Sports, quoting Norwegian outlet VG Sporten.

The player’s club, Molde FK had earlier revealed in December that the case was reported to authorities in April 2025, noting that both the player and the club cooperated fully with the police throughout the investigation.

Court verdict and financial penalty

The ruling was reportedly delivered on Tuesday afternoon, with the outcome going against the 19-year-old midfielder.

In addition to the six-month prison sentence, Daga has also been ordered to pay 10,000 Norwegian kroner in legal costs.

Following the court decision, Molde confirmed the development in a statement posted on Instagram, while stressing that the verdict is not yet final.

“The player has, through his defence attorney, notified an appeal of the verdict. The case is therefore not legally binding, and it will be treated further in the judicial system,” the club said.

Club responds to the situation

Molde acknowledged the seriousness of the case and the strain it has placed on everyone involved.

“This is a very demanding case for everyone involved. Molde Football Club as an employer has a responsibility to protect our employees in a defensive manner, while we respect the seriousness of the matter and the burdens this incur on all parties concerned,” the club added.

Due to the ongoing legal proceedings, the Norwegian side confirmed that the midfielder will remain unavailable for selection.

“Based on the situation and the ongoing legal process, the club has decided that the player will not be part of the match squad until further notice.”

Daga’s career so far

Daga joined Molde in January 2025 and has made appearances in both the Norwegian top flight and European competition.

At international level, he represented Nigeria U-20 national football team at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup, where the Flying Eagles were eliminated in the round of 16 by Argentina national football team.
