Coventry City “can’t go wrong” with new signing Kaine Kesler-Hayden but his arrival at the CBS Arena paves the way for Milan van Ewijk to depart, claims Lee Hendrie.

The Sky Sports pundit believes the Sky Blues have got a bargain if they have secured the Aston Villa right-back for the reported figure of £3.5m, although other outlets have claimed the transfer fee is nearer £5m. The club have not disclosed how much they have paid for his services.

Commenting on Frank Lampard’s second summer signing, Hendrie said: “Kesler-Hayden for £3.5 million, you can’t really go wrong. You’re not really throwing loads of cash at it really for that sort of fee, he’s a young player as well with potential and good quality and a good replacement.”

“I think Van Ewijk has been excellent for Coventry since they brought him in, and you can see why he’s drawn attraction from Premier League clubs in Fulham.

“So, you’d think that now a jigsaw puzzle will fix itself by Van Ewijk leaving and Kesler-Hayden coming in, but I think this will be a good signing for Coventry, I really do.”

City fans will be hoping that Lampard will be able to keep both right-backs to forge hot competition and strength in depth in a position which the Dutchman has made his own over the last couple of seasons. Van Ewijk was virtually ever present last term due to not having a recognised rival to compete for the right-hand defensive berth.
