Former Barcelona striker, Martin Braithwaite has opened up on former team-mate, Lionel Messi’s exit from the Blaugrana.

Braithwaite believes that the Argentina captain did not deserve to leave Barcelona in such a manner.

He, however, hoped Messi would return to the Catalan club in the near future to retire at the club.

Recall that Messi left Barcelona in 2021 as a free agent after the Spanish LaLiga champions were unable to renew his contract.

The 38-year-old, who currently plays for Inter Miami, eventually joined Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent.

Speaking to GE (as quoted by Sportskeeda), Braithwaite said: “It was strange because it happened suddenly, we were all expecting him to renew, everything was ready for the contract renewal, and suddenly he left the club.

“Leo is a very lovable person and helps us, and you feel comfortable with him. He was very calm. As for Leo as a player, I think I don’t need to say anything.

“He didn’t deserve that. I hope he can play his last match there because he truly deserves it.”
