The Nigerian film community is grieving the unexpected passing of veteran actor Chief Kanran, who died on August 15 at the age of 70.
His older brother, Chief Yemi, has now clarified the circumstances surrounding the loss. Contrary to circulating rumours that the actor had been ill, Yemi stressed that Chief Kanran was in good health shortly before his death.
In an interview with Feelfree News TV, Yemi recounted that the late star attended a church service the Friday before he passed away and was seen dancing with enthusiasm.
“He wasn’t sick,” Yemi explained. “The Friday before he died, he went for a church programme and people said he danced so well. He even called me on Thursday and said we’d meet the next day.”
Tragically, that meeting never happened. Just a day after their conversation, the family received the shocking news that the actor had suddenly collapsed.
He stated:
“It was that Friday that they called me to say that he had died. I now ask what happened. They told me that he slumped in the bathroom. Before they could get to the hospital, he had died.”
