Former Barcelona and England star, Gary Lineker, has criticised Manchester United for allowing Marcus Rashford leave.
Linafter was impressed by the forward’s display for Barcelona against Newcastle in the Champions League last week, labelling the England international an ‘immense talent’.
Rashford joined Barcelona on a temporary basis during the summer of 2025, having spent the previous season on loan at Aston Villa.
The player had to go in search of a greener pasture after falling out of favour in the first-team at Manchester United.
United boss, Ruben Amorim, said the player was no longer in his plans at Old Trafford as he was not pleased with the attacker’s work ethic and professionalism on the training ground.
But Rashford produced undoubtedly his finest performance yet at Barcelona against Newcastle, scoring a double to give the visiting Spanish side a two-goal advantage at St James’ Park.
“He was left out, they brought him on at half-time and he got an assist,” Lineker on The Rest Is Football podcast.
“He nearly scored with a couple of good efforts as well.
“Of course [he’s still got it]. He’s an immense talent, Marcus.
“He’s had some dips in his career, like most of us do, and he’s been at a club that has had huge problems at Manchester United.
“It seems that most of the players that have left there have done particularly well subsequently.”
Rashford is expected to move on from his Manchester United career after his loan spell at Barcelona with several clubs ready to sign the 27-year-old if Barca fails to tie him down with a permanent deal.
