Chelsea may be without midfielder Roméo Lavia for nearly a month following a quadriceps injury he sustained during the Blues’ UEFA Champions League match against Qarabağ.

The Belgian youngster had only just returned to play after an extended period on the sidelines and was forced to leave the field after just a few minutes, which has left fans and coaching staff deeply concerned. According to reports from the club’s medical team, Lavia is expected to be out for at least a month, meaning he will miss several key fixtures.

The positive news for Chelsea supporters is that this latest injury is not related to his previous hamstring issues. However, coach Maresca and his team are worried about the pattern of muscular injuries that have hindered Lavia’s progress since he joined Chelsea in 2023 for around £53 million.

Since arriving at Stamford Bridge, Lavia’s career has been plagued by injuries, including ankle and thigh problems, as well as a hamstring tear that kept him out for most of last season. Although his talent is unquestionable, his ongoing fitness concerns are raising doubts about his long-term reliability in Chelsea’s midfield plans.

Chelsea fans will be hopeful that, just as Reece James overcame his injury, Lavia will also overcome this setback and return to full fitness before the end of the 2025/26 season.
