Nigerian Afro-pop sensation Yemi Alade has reflected on a deeply emotional phase in her life one that led her into depression and self-doubt.
In a candid conversation with media host Chude Jideonwo, the Johnny hitmaker revealed that she once experienced a period where she genuinely lost track of her real age. This confusion, she said, had a significant impact on her mental health.
According to Yemi Alade, she spent years telling people she was 22, only to later realize she was actually 25. The realization shook her deeply.
She recalled:
“Someone asked me my age, and for three years, I kept saying I was 22. Then one day, I calculated it properly and discovered I was actually 25. When I found out, I was depressed for days. My mind couldn’t process it. For three years, I didn’t know my real age.”
The singer described that period as one filled with identity struggles and emotional stress despite maintaining a lively and confident persona in public.
She added:
“It was all mental. I didn’t even know who I was at that time.”
