‘I haven’t received my flowers,’ says TiwaPraises colleagues despite frustrations

Speaking during an interview on the Off Air Show, the singer said she often feels overlooked, despite being one of Africa’s most recognised and decorated female artists.

Tiwa, who has won several international awards and sold-out concerts globally, noted that her influence on the Afrobeats movement has not always been acknowledged within her home industry.

‘I haven’t received my flowers,’ says Tiwa

When asked if she believes she has received her due recognition, Tiwa was direct, replying, “No. I’m sorry, I don’t.”

She explained that while she is proud of her career milestones, she feels that Nigerians often celebrate her less compared to her male counterparts.

The singer added that constant comparison and criticism sometimes overshadow genuine appreciation for female achievements in the entertainment space.

Praises colleagues despite frustrations

Despite her feelings of underappreciation, Tiwa took time to commend other music stars for their hard work and global recognition.

She mentioned Ayra Starr, Tems, and Tanzanian singer Diamond Platnumz as examples of artists who are helping to shape the sound and visibility of African music.

According to Tiwa, her hope is that the next generation of female artists will be celebrated fully for their impact, without facing the same struggles she encountered.
