Nigerian comedian Freedom Okpetoritse Atsepoyi, widely known as Mr Jollof, has sparked controversy after claiming that he has experienced consistent electricity supply since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu took office.

The statement, shared in a video on his Instagram page, provoked strong reactions online, particularly as many Nigerians continue to face frequent power outages across the country.

In the clip, Mr Jollof clarified that he was speaking from his own experience and did not intend to undermine the challenges faced by others. He explained that while some areas still struggle with unreliable electricity, his locality has seen noticeable improvements under the current government.

“I have the right to share my personal experience, just as everyone else has the right to express their own views,” he said.

The comedian added that electricity in his area has improved by roughly 85% compared to previous administrations, making the use of inverters unnecessary.

“I want to show how we have been able to enjoy a stable electricity supply since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu came into power. The situation now is much better than it was before. I don’t even need an inverter anymore,” he stated.

Mr Jollof also highlighted that the current administration has allowed states to generate and distribute electricity independently. He advised Nigerians facing power problems to direct their concerns to their state governors and power commissioners.

“Go ask your governor or your commissioner of power and energy why you’re not getting electricity,” he said.

Despite his explanation, the comedian’s comments drew criticism online, with many accusing him of defending the government amid widespread complaints about erratic power supply. The timing of his video also fueled frustration, as several communities have recently protested due to unstable electricity.

“Ever since the emergence of President Tinubu in office, I have been enjoying constant electricity. It’s better than the last administration. If you don’t have electricity, query the Governor of your state.”

@OgaDeeno wrote:”Some f00ls has sold their conscience because of crumbs, that even a single shame they don’t have anymore.”

@mrviconochie reacted:”It’s clear that you are a very wicked Nigerian…..so because you have electricity within your area…. automatically every Nigerian does….???? You are such a self-centered human being……no wonder they call you stomach infrastructure.”
