Controversial social media activist and influencer VeryDarkMan has addressed the backlash that followed his remarks during the ongoing Nigerian Bar Association Annual General Conference (NBA-AGC) in Rivers State.
The activist explained that his decision to apologise to members of the military was not an admission that he made the statement attributed to him about the institution.
According to VeryDarkMan, his apology was prompted by the way his comments were interpreted rather than an acceptance of the claim made by a woman who confronted him over his remarks.
“Let me clear the air on this. I apologise to the military, not because I said what the woman claimed I said, but because of how she interpreted it,” he said.
He stressed that he never described the entire Nigerian military as corrupt, urging the public to distinguish between what he actually said and the interpretation that followed.
“There was never a time or place where I said the entire military was cørrupt,” he added.
VeryDarkMan further clarified that his apology should not be viewed as an endorsement of the allegations made against him.
“My apology does not mean I accepted what the lady said,” he stated.
The activist also maintained his position on the security situation in the country, arguing that some individuals benefit from the insecurity that has continued to affect Nigerians.
“They are beneficial of those insecurities, Gumi said it, that’s why it yet to stop,” he said.
His latest statement comes after his appearance at the NBA Annual General Conference in Rivers State, where his remarks generated reactions and sparked a conversation about his views on the military and Nigeria’s security challenges.
