Multiple award-winning Nigerian artiste Davido has revealed his intention to venture into the film industry, expressing interest in playing the role of a taxi driver.
The music star shared this during a panel discussion at the 2025 Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), held in Lagos on Monday.
Speaking at the session themed “Rhythms of the Continent: The Afrobeat Movement and Its Impacts on African Film,” Davido said he was eager to explore filmmaking and collaborate with African creatives.
“My brother mentioned giving me a role, and I told him I’d love to play something unexpected like a taxi driver,” he said.
According to the Unavailable hitmaker, acting is part of his broader vision to expand his creative reach beyond music. He noted that he hopes to be part of projects that tell authentic African stories and reflect real-life experiences.
Davido added that he takes cues from international stars who have successfully blended music and film, naming American rapper and actor 50 Cent as a major inspiration.
“I’m definitely looking forward to getting into movies,” he affirmed, stressing his desire to merge music and film to promote African culture on the global stage.
Beyond acting, the Afrobeats icon disclosed plans to produce films that celebrate African identity and storytelling. He cited his admiration for story-driven projects like Uncorked, which explore themes of culture, self-discovery, and heritage.
Davido concluded by emphasizing that both African music and cinema are powerful avenues for cultural representation and international recognition.
