Former BBNaija star Tsakute Ladi Jonah, popularly known as Saskay, has opened up about her struggles adjusting to the academic system in Europe.
Sharing her experience on her 𝕏 page, Saskay highlighted the notable difference between education in Nigeria and what she is currently experiencing abroad. According to her, the learning process in Nigeria largely focuses on memorising lessons and reproducing them during examinations.
However, in Europe, students are encouraged to not only understand what is taught in class, but also carry out personal research and apply the knowledge to real-life situations in assignments and exams.
Saskay confessed that the change has been quite demanding because she was never trained to study in that manner. Nonetheless, she noted that she is willing to learn and gradually adapt to the new system.
Her post read:
“Schooling in Nigeria made me learn exactly what I was taught and spitting it out in tests/exams.
Schooling in Europe says I need to learn what I’m taught, read more outside of school work and apply that knowledge to real life situations in texts/exams.
It’s a bit of a struggle tbh especially since I’ve never learnt how to do the latter.”
It will be recalled that Saskay recently began her Master’s program in Global Security and Strategy at the Brussels School of Governance in Belgium. She had earlier shared that it took her five years to secure this opportunity, admitting that she faced several setbacks and even considered settling for a course she wasn’t genuinely interested in before finally making the right choice.
