Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has said a spouse who cheats can be forgiven if the person is genuinely remorseful and shows evidence of having changed.
The mother of four shared her views on marital infidelity during an interview with Broadway TV, where she was asked whether a cheating partner should be forgiven.
Omotola said she believes a first-time incident should not automatically mean the end of a marriage if the offending partner genuinely regrets the action and changes their behaviour.
“If someone cheats once, should they be forgiven? I would say yes, if they are genuinely remorseful and show that they have changed.”
The actress, however, said repeated infidelity should make couples examine the situation more carefully instead of rushing to make decisions.
“Should someone forgive a repeatedly cheating spouse? Why are they cheating? I think the problem these days is that we are very impatient. Yes, the scene is very bad but then, sometimes you need to access the situation.”
She further advised people to consider the character and circumstances of the person involved rather than reducing the entire relationship to the act of infidelity.
“One, who is this person really? Is that the only problem? Is this person perfect but just a cheat? Now you have to weigh options.”
