A prison break massacre has erupted in Ecuador as inmates have murd3red a guard and 11 others, with six officers also kidnapped in the fatal incident.
A huge prison riot broke out with two rival factions taking on each other in the brutal fight, local media reports. The incident took place in the notorious Machala prison early hours of Monday morning, September 22.
Initial reports suggested that at around 2am, a group of prisoners, who formed the Los Lobos Box gang, escaped their cells to commit the m@ssacre. In the first part of their escape, they resorted to k!lling the prison guard before running from the scene. They also injured two more police officers and abducted another six officers during their attack.
The gang managed to break their way into another cell block housing members of the rival Los Lobos gang. Reports estimate that more than a dozen prisoners were k!lled by the criminals, while around the same number were also injured.
The prison break also appeared to have help from the outside, according to EcuAvisa. A total of three different explosives were seemingly detonated to allow for the prisoners to escape.
Police in Ecuador have now confirmed that a total of 13 different prisoners have been found and redetained since the prison break began. Since then, security presence around the prison has been tightened with over 200 uniformed officers — including the police and the army — seen keeping a watchful eye over the prison hours following the incident.
The Machala prison is one of the most notorious jails in Ecuador, renowned for the level of gang violence inside its walls.
