Darren Watkins Sr., better known as Daddy Speed and father of popular streamer IShowSpeed, recently joined the playful culinary debate between Nigeria and Ghana over jollof rice.
During a livestream, IShowSpeed presented his dad with two plates of the famous West African dish, asking him to sample them without revealing which country each version came from. The aim was to settle, at least in this casual setting, which nation’s jollof rice was more impressive.
Daddy Speed took his time tasting both dishes, paying close attention to the flavors, textures, and aroma. While both plates shared a similar base of rice cooked with tomatoes, peppers, and spices, he noticed distinct differences in how each was prepared.
After thoughtful bites, he offered his assessment, noting the seasoning, consistency, and overall depth of taste. Ultimately, he favored the Nigerian version, praising its bold seasoning, rich flavor, tender rice, and subtle smoky undertones. He crowned it the winner of the taste test.
This outcome echoed IShowSpeed’s own experiences from his January 2026 Africa tour, where he sampled Nigerian jollof in Lagos and Ghanaian jollof in Accra, ultimately expressing a preference for the Nigerian style.
The livestream clip quickly went viral, reigniting the long-standing, lighthearted debate over which country serves the superior jollof rice.
