Mariam Adeyemi Timmer, a key cast member of The Real Housewives of Lagos, has shared insights into the personal challenges she endured while filming the reality show.
In a recent interview, she discussed how undergoing IVF treatment alongside managing a thyroid condition took a toll on her both physically and emotionally. She explained that these health struggles emerged during her fertility journey and influenced her mood throughout the filming process.
Mariam revealed that many viewers were unaware that her on-screen reactions were influenced by what she was experiencing behind the scenes. She also described the frustration and confusion she felt upon discovering her thyroid issue, particularly since she was already dealing with fibroids and striving to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
According to her, juggling these health concerns made that period extremely difficult.
Before her reality TV debut, Mariam studied political science, pursued a career in public relations, and embraced motherhood. She joined the series in its first season, appearing from episode four, and emphasized that she simply aimed to be authentic while on camera.
In another discussion, Mariam highlighted the pressures women often face when confronting fertility and health challenges. She explained that she decided to speak out because many women remain silent due to societal or cultural expectations, despite experiencing similar struggles.
She added that while she still hopes to expand her family, she no longer feels compelled to pressure herself.
