Nigerian rapper and activist Folarin Falana, better known as Falz, has opened up about how the increasing tribal and religious division in the country has been weighing heavily on him.

Falz made this known in response to a post by his colleague Nasboi, who urged Nigerians to unite beyond tribal and religious boundaries and hold their leaders accountable.

Nasboi wrote: “We’ve really kept quiet in this country. Reminiscing stories like ‘snake swallowing money.’ These politicians really take us for granted. Busy stealing money they cannot finish on earth. It’s time to put our tribes and religions aside. Put this country first.”

Reacting to the tweet, Falz said Nigerians must begin to think independently and stop allowing politicians to manipulate them using ethnic and religious differences.

He wrote: “I cannot begin to explain how depressing it has been in recent years, seeing tribal and religious sentiments still being used to turn us against each other. At some point we need to start thinking for ourselves.”

Falz’s comment comes amid an ongoing debate between Christian and Muslim youths on social media, following U.S. President Donald Trump’s reported threat to take military action against Nigeria over alleged attacks on Christians by Islamic extremists.
