A fire incident in Gida Dubu area of Dutse, Jigawa State, has claimed the lives of two children, aged 2 and 6.
The incident occurred at about 4:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2026 at Layin Dabinai, near Masallacin Malam Babba, where fire engulfed rooms occupied by the children.
The spokesperson for the command, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud, who confirmed the incident in a statement said the victims are children of Aminuddeen Abubakar, a staff member of the Federal University Dutse (FUD).
According to the spokesperson, a separate fire fire outbreak occurred in the same area but no lives were lost.
“The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Jigawa State Command, regrets to inform the public of two separate fire incidents that occurred on Thursday, 19th March, 2026, at Gida Dubu area of Dutse, resulting in tragic loss of lives and destruction of property,” the statement read.
“The first incident occurred in the early hours of the 17th day of march 2026 at about 4:00 a.m. at Layin Dabinai, near Masallacin Malam Babba.
“The inferno, which started under circumstances yet to be determined, spread rapidly and engulfed rooms occupied by two children of Aminuddeen Abubakar, a staff member of the Federal University Dutse (FUD).
“Despite prompt emergency response efforts, the intensity of the fire made rescue impossible, and the two children male and female aged 2 years and 6 years both of the same parents were sadly confirmed d3ad at the scene.
“In a separate development, another fire outbreak was recorded later today the 19th March 2026 at about 12:00 noon within the same Gida Dubu area.
“Preliminary findings revealed that the fire originated from an electrical spark in the kitchen of one Nura Garba, popularly known as Dangwan Gwan.
“The fire extended to adjoining houses belonging to one Mu’azu Garba and Mohammed Aliyu, also known as Jaujen Hadejia, causing damage to kitchens and roofing zinc.
“Fortunately, no lives were lost in the second incident, as firefighters responded swiftly and successfully brought the situation under control, preventing further destruction.
“While the exact cause of the early morning fire remains unknown, relevant authorities are expected to carry out a thorough investigation to determine the causes of both incidents and recommend preventive measures.
“The NSCDC Jigawa State Command extends its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased children over this painful loss and sympathizes with all those affected by the incidents.
“The Command also urges residents to remain vigilant and adopt strict fire safety practices, particularly in the handling of electrical appliances and open flames, to prevent future occurrences.
“The NSCDC reiterates its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Jigawa State.”
