Popular Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has proposed a new policy aimed at improving the welfare of actors and actresses in the Nigerian film industry.
The veteran actor called on the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) to consider implementing a system where actors receive lifetime royalty payments from movies they feature in, especially those distributed on streaming platforms.
According to him, such a policy would ensure that performers continue to earn from their work long after production, providing financial stability throughout their careers.
He also suggested the creation of a dedicated agency responsible for overseeing and enforcing the implementation of the royalty system across the country.
Kanayo O. Kanayo noted that many actors struggle financially after they stop getting roles, stressing that a structured royalty system would help address the issue.
The proposal has sparked conversations within the entertainment industry, with many stakeholders highlighting the need for reforms that protect the long-term interests of creative professionals.
