Residents of Bajallabe in Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State were thrown into deep mourning following the tragic d3ath of a two-year-old boy, Danjuma Salman, who drowned after falling into an open well.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the incident occurred around 10:05 am on Friday, November 7, 2025.

He said the agency’s Emergency Response Unit received a distress call from Saminu Dayyabu, reporting that a child had fallen into a well in Bajallabe.

Upon arrival at the scene, rescue officers from the Fire Service headquarters discovered that the boy had fallen into a well with a damaged cover, despite swift efforts to retrieve him, the child was rescued unconscious and later confirmed d3ad.

The victim’s body was subsequently handed over to his father, Salman Dayyabu, for burial.

The Fire Service spokesperson expressed deep concern over the increasing number of drowning incidents involving children across the state, often linked to uncovered wells, open water sources, and pit toilets.

He urged parents and caregivers to be more vigilant and ensure that wells and other open water points are properly sealed to prevent similar tragedies.

“We are appealing to residents to cover their wells and pit toilets securely and keep children away from such dangers. Most of these incidents are preventable,” he added.
