Labour Party’s national chairman Nenadi Usman has announced that the Labour Party Nigeria has zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to southern Nigeria, ruling out aspirants from the north.Nigerian political news

Speaking in Abuja, Usman said the decision had already been finalised within the party. She stated: “We have one certain decision that we have taken and that is that we will certainly not field any aspirant from northern Nigeria. We have zoned the position to southern Nigeria.”

She added firmly: “So if any northerner comes now to want to contest elections, we certainly will not accept that.” Despite the announcement, Usman declined to name a preferred candidate, stressing that the party would follow democratic processes.

She said: “As for who, I can’t tell you now because then it won’t be democratic anymore. Whoever the people like and vote for during the primaries… could be the candidate.” On internal party matters, she revealed that a legal challenge against the party’s leadership had been dismissed.

According to her: “To God be the glory, the case was thrown out because it lacked merit,” adding that the judge “stood on truth.” Usman also indicated that the party may adjust the timetable for its congresses due to increasing membership.

She explained: “If we go ahead to stick to that date… we are going to disenfranchise quite a number of people.” Addressing security concerns, she confirmed the party had petitioned the Nigeria Police Force over an attack on its office.

She expressed confidence in accountability, saying: “I’m very, very sure they are going to make sure that they bring to book all those who had a hand in what happened to serve as a deterrent.” Usman also encouraged members to embrace digital registration, noting that manual processes should be limited to those without access to mobile technology.
