Lionel Messi reached another remarkable career milestone after scoring his 930th career goal with a spectacular free kick during Inter Miami’s 2-2 draw against San Diego FC in Major League Soccer on Sunday night.
San Diego took an early lead in the 12th minute through Anders Dreyer, who lifted the ball over Inter Miami goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair after being played through.
12 minutes later, Messi responded with a trademark moment of brilliance.
After winning a free kick just outside the penalty area, the Argentine stepped up and curled a left-footed effort around the wall. The ball struck the post before crossing the line, and San Diego goalkeeper CJ dos Santos couldn’t keep it out.
The strike was Messi’s 20th MLS goal of the 2026 season and his 101st goal for Inter Miami in all competitions. It also marked his 75th career free-kick goal.
Inter Miami later took the lead when Luis Suárez scored in the 74th minute, but San Diego responded when Dreyer struck again in the 82nd minute to complete his brace and earn the visitors a point
Lionel Messi has also continued to contribute beyond his goals, recording 11 assists in 22 MLS appearances this season. He has scored in three consecutive matches, while contributing either a goal or an assist in eight straight games.
Inter Miami remain third in the Eastern Conference with 46 points and will return to MLS action against the Columbus Crew on September 27.
