Trent Alexander-Arnold, in a new interview, has opened up on what to expect from him as Real Madrid travels to Liverpool for the 2025 Champions League fixture.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is preparing to face Liverpool for the first time since his controversial summer move to Real Madrid, describing the upcoming and highly anticipated Champions League clash as “difficult” given how soon it has come after his departure.

The 27-year-old, who came through Liverpool’s academy, turned down a contract extension at Anfield before joining the Spanish La Liga giants on a free transfer in June. Since his arrival, Alexander-Arnold has made five appearances for Real Madrid but has been sidelined for the last two La Liga matches due to a hamstring problem.

Xabi Alonso’s side will travel to Anfield on Tuesday for a highly anticipated Champions League encounter, with the England international in contention to start against his former club.

Speaking to Amazon Prime Sport ahead of the game, Alexander-Arnold admitted that returning to Liverpool so soon after leaving will be an emotional experience.

“When the draw came out, I think everyone kind of knew it was bound to happen—it felt like it was meant to be,” he said. “They’re a top team, and I knew eventually I’d play against Liverpool. It’s happening sooner than expected. It’ll be a very tough game, but one I’m excited for.”

When asked if he would celebrate against his former side when he scores, Alexander-Arnold revealed that he would not celebrate if he scored against Liverpool, reaffirming that his affection for the club remains unchanged.

“How the fans receive me is up to them,” he added. “I’ll always have love for Liverpool and always be grateful for the opportunities and memories we shared. Those moments will stay with me forever.

“No matter what happens, my feelings toward Liverpool won’t change. I’ll always be a fan of the club and thankful for everything we achieved together.”
