Nigerian singer Lojay has opened up about the challenges he has faced with love, fame, and the pressures of being in the spotlight, revealing that a past relationship once caused him to lose his sense of self.

In an interview with The Nation, the ‘Monalisa’ star explained that the experience reshaped his perspective on love and continues to influence his songwriting.

“There was a time when I loved someone deeply but ended up losing myself along the way,” he admitted. “Love should build you up, not diminish you. Since then, I’ve focused on writing from a place of balanced affection and awareness.”

Known for his heartfelt and romantic tracks, Lojay also discussed handling the intense attention from fans, particularly female admirers, emphasizing the need for personal boundaries.

“I truly value the support, but I’ve learned the importance of limits. You can’t entertain every kind of energy. Losing that boundary makes the music feel staged rather than genuine,” he explained.

With his debut album XOXO on the horizon, Lojay said he is embracing a new chapter of emotional transparency, shaped by experience rather than just emotion.

“‘LV N ATTN’ was about desire, ‘Gangster Romantic’ about heartbreak, and XOXO is about acceptance,” he shared. “It reflects loving, losing, healing, and choosing to love again just in a different way.”

Despite achieving international recognition, the soft-spoken artist stays grounded by keeping close to his family and taking breaks from the public eye when needed.

“Sometimes I just step away… no music, no social media. It’s my time to breathe and reconnect with God and my loved ones,” he said.

Lojay hopes his listeners feel a personal connection with XOXO from start to finish.

“If someone finishes the album and says, ‘I’ve been through that too,’ then I know I’ve done my job,” he concluded.
