Manchester City and Manchester United have played a total of six Premier League matches. Both teams have won just once.

Pep Guardiola must have thought normal order has been restored, after they thrashed Wolves 4-0 in their opening fixture.

City looked fluid and fluent at the Molineux, with Erling Haaland scoring a brace and new boy Tijjani Reijnders impressive.

However, they former champions lost the next two matches to Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton.

For United, they were able to pick up their first win just before the international break, with Bruno Fernandes’ 97th minute penalty ensuring a 3-2 win over Burnley.

The two teams will meet at the Etihad on Sunday, on a poor run of form and desperate not to lose.

When the two Manchester sides met back in April, they produced one of the worst games of last season: a scoreless draw in which City didn’t attempt a shot over the final 20 minutes and neither team created a single dangerous chance.

Guardiola will be hoping that his side are able to cope with the absence of Omar Marmoush and Ryan Cherki who are both injured.

Haaland however returns from international duty in red-hot form, ready to face one of his favourite opponents.

Amorim, on his part, is still waiting to get his attackers firing, especially Benjamin Sesko who has looked out of place.

But whatever happens, Amorim knows they cannot leave enemy territory with a poor result on Sunday.
