Manchester United’s pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo is more complicated than it seems, as the deal extends beyond just agreeing on a transfer fee. According to Fabrizio Romano, both clubs are now deep in talks over the structure of the payment, including installments, add-ons, and how those bonuses would be triggered.

United see Mbeumo as a key addition to bolster their attacking options, but Brentford are demanding a deal that reflects his importance. While United are offering to spread the cost over several payments, Brentford prefer a larger fee paid up front. The difference in these approaches is currently one of the sticking points.

Another layer of complexity lies in the bonus structure. United want performance-based clauses—such as Champions League qualification—while Brentford are pushing for easier, appearance-based bonuses. Both sides are trying to find middle ground that works financially and competitively.

Although Mbeumo is reportedly open to the move, the deal hinges on the clubs aligning on these financial terms. Personal terms are unlikely to be an issue, but until Brentford’s demands are met, the transfer remains in negotiation.

United are aiming to move quickly so they can shift focus to other targets, while Brentford, in no rush to sell, are standing firm on their valuation. The next few days could be key as discussions intensify and both sides work to close the gap.
