Enzo Maresca did not mince his words as he shared his reaction to Liam Delap’s shocking red card in the Chelsea vs Wolves fixture in the Carabao Cup.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has expressed his frustration following Liam Delap’s red card on his return for the club during their recent Carabao Cup fixture, describing the forward’s actions as “a stupid red card” that could have been easily avoided.

Speaking after the game, Maresca did not mince words when addressing the incident: “It’s a stupid red card. Delap should avoid that,” he said. “After the yellow card, I told him four or five times to stay calm. When he is on the pitch, he sometimes plays the game for himself and struggles to see the others around him.”

The dismissal proved costly for Chelsea, disrupting their rhythm and momentum at a crucial stage of the game. Maresca, who has been working tirelessly to instil tactical discipline and composure in his young squad, was visibly disappointed by the lapse in maturity.

Since taking over at Stamford Bridge, the Italian coach has emphasised structure, control, and teamwork, qualities that moments like Delap’s send-off directly undermine.

Chelsea now face the challenge of regrouping and maintaining focus as they look to bounce back in their next fixture scheduled to be played in the Premier League this weekend
