Boxing legend Manny Pacquiao has confirmed that negotiations are underway for a blockbuster rematch with Floyd Mayweather, ten years after their record-breaking 2015 showdown.
Netflix leading negotiations for long-awaited sequel
Streaming giant Netflix is reportedly fronting discussions to stage what could be one of boxing’s most lucrative comebacks, with a 2025 Las Vegas date under consideration.
Pacquiao, speaking in Manila, said he is ready if Mayweather agrees to return. “As long as Floyd will come back. I’m active in boxing, it’s possible,” Pacquiao told SunSport.
“There is talk, and I’m happy to start discussing a possible rematch with Floyd. Of course, there’s a good chance, it’s only if he will come back that’s possible.”
Their first encounter in 2015 shattered pay-per-view and ticket sale records, generating over £500 million globally.
Despite Pacquiao’s later claim that a torn rotator cuff hindered his performance, the highly anticipated rematch never materialised until now.
Pacquiao still hungry for redemption
Now 46, Pacquiao remains active in the sport and recently returned for a controversial WBC welterweight title bout against Mario Barrios, which ended in a draw. The Filipino icon, an eight-division world champion, insists he’s still motivated.
“After the operation, I was OK to fight again. God is giving me strength and good health to continue my career,” he said. “I’m a fighter, I’m not ducking anybody.”
Mayweather’s silence adds to the mystery
Mayweather, 48, retired unbeaten at 50-0 after defeating Conor McGregor in 2017 but has since fought in several high-profile exhibitions, most recently in 2024 against John Gotti III.
Whether he’s willing to risk his perfect record remains to be seen, though he has often hinted at a comeback.
Netflix’s entry into boxing has been game-changing, drawing over 100 million viewers for Jake Paul’s win over Mike Tyson and 43 million for Terence Crawford’s victory against Canelo Alvarez. A Pacquiao-Mayweather sequel would almost certainly eclipse both figures.
