Inter Miami captain, Lionel Messi, scored twice as they thrashed New York City FC 4-0 on Wednesday night at Citi Field.

The win saw them claim a spot in the 2025 Major League Soccer playoffs.

For Messi, he has now scored five goals in the last nine days for his club.

After scoring his second-half brace, Messi had the chance to complete a hat-trick, but instead he gave a late penalty to Luis Suarez.

The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has scored two or more goals in eight of the past 12 Inter Miami matches.

He becomes the fourth player in MLS history to record multiple goals in just eight games in a single season.

Inter Miami’s next fixture is against Toronto FC on Saturday night, as Javier Mascherano’s men look to secure the 2025 Supporters’ Shield.

Miami sits in third place on the Eastern Conference table with 55 points in 29 games, two matches behind leaders Philadelphia Union.
