The future of Michael Carrick has been a major conversation among Manchester United supporters, as they are torn between whether he should get the job permanently or get a replacement in the summer.

Michael Carrick has addressed growing speculation about his future at Manchester United following his impressive start as interim head coach. After guiding the Red Devils to a dramatic 3–2 victory over Arsenal, Carrick made it clear that while he is enjoying the opportunity, he is not getting carried away by talk of a permanent appointment.

The midfielder, while speaking after the game confirmed that his focus remains firmly on the present and on getting the best out of the squad. He described his current role as a “fantastic position to be in,” but avoided making any long-term commitments.

What did Carrick say about his role at Manchester United?

“I am enjoying it… it’s a fantastic position to be in. What happens next, I’m not going to be answering it every week.”

He explained that he does not want to be drawn into weekly discussions about whether he should be handed the job permanently. According to him his priority is maintaining momentum and consistency on the pitch rather than thinking about personal ambition.

Carrick’s calm approach has earned praise, especially given United’s recent upturn in form against top opposition, such as Manchester City and the league leaders, Arsenal.

The victory against Arsenal was the first time Manchester United had won at the Emirates since 2017 under Jose Mourinho. The supporters of the club will hope the Red Devils continue their winning form under Carrick.
