Liverpool and Egypt forward Mohamed Salah has added another record to his glittering career, becoming Africa’s all-time top scorer in FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The Egyptian captain reached this milestone after scoring twice in Egypt’s 3–0 victory over Djibouti on October 8, 2025, a win that also confirmed their qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.Salah’s brace took his total to 20 goals in World Cup qualifying matches, surpassing African greats such as Didier Drogba, Samuel Eto’o, Islam Slimani, and Moumouni Dagano, who each had 18.

The Liverpool star’s goals came in the 14th and 84th minutes, highlighting his enduring consistency and leadership for the Pharaohs.

The record further cements Salah’s legacy as not just Egypt’s talisman but also one of Africa’s greatest footballers. He had already overtaken Mohamed Aboutrika as Egypt’s top scorer in World Cup qualifiers earlier in the campaign. Salah now stands alone as the most prolific African in the competition’s history, boasting an incredible scoring record that spans multiple qualification campaigns.

With nine goals so far in the ongoing 2026 qualifiers, Salah has been instrumental in Egypt’s unbeaten run. His performances continue to inspire a new generation of African players, proving that consistency and excellence at the highest level can rewrite history.
