Activist, Adetoun, has shared a video showing the moment she confronted an woman whose 11 year old daughter joined her to sweep an estate as early as 4:30am daily.
The woman was employed by the estate management to sweep. However, today being a public holiday, the woman came in with her daughter who joined her in sweeping.
Adetoun who resides in the estate saw them and accosted the mother. She expressed her displeasure at the woman for making her daughter join her as early as 4.30am to come to sweep.
According to Adetoun, making an 11 year old work is child labour which is not tolerated.
‘’You don’t bring an 11 year old girl as early as 4.30-5am for child labour. I am not going to listen to your predicament. Don’t ever bring this girl out.”
She threatened that the girl will be taken away from the mum if she is seen ever again with her sweeping the estate.
Adetoun’s video has received mixed reactions from Nigerians. While some people praised her for looking out for the child, others argued that her actions were condescending and that she humiliated the mother in the presence of her child.
