Morocco who have been crowned champions at the FIFA U20 World Cup have set a new record for Africa.

Morocco with their victory and being crowned champions at the U20 World Cup have set a new record for Africa on one of football’s biggest stages at the international level.

Morocco have made history by defeating Argentina 2–0 to win the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup, becoming only the second African country after Ghana in 2009 to lift the trophy.

The final took place at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos in Santiago, Chile, home to Universidad de Chile and the Chilean national team.

It was a memorable night for the young Atlas Lions, who displayed composure, discipline, and attacking precision to capture the nation’s first-ever FIFA title.

Yassir Zabiri was once again Morocco’s hero. The forward opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a stunning free kick before sealing the victory with a composed finish midway through the second half.

Argentina, aiming for a record-extending seventh U-20 World Cup crown, controlled possession for much of the match but struggled to find a way through Morocco’s resolute defence.

Captain Ismael Baouf and goalkeeper Youssef Benchaa led from the back as the North Africans absorbed pressure and threatened on the counterattack.

Morocco’s road to the final was as impressive as the victory itself. They overcame Spain, Brazil, South Korea, and the United States before edging France on penalties in the semi-finals.

Their only defeat came in the group stage against Mexico, but the team grew stronger as the tournament progressed.

The triumph marks a milestone for Moroccan and African football, further cementing the nation’s rise on the global stage just three years after their senior men’s team reached the World Cup semi-finals in Qatar.

For Argentina, the defeat was a bitter one. They had been dominant throughout the competition but failed to break down Morocco’s organised defence.

Frustration mounted in the closing stages as they collected several yellow cards and were denied a late penalty following a VAR review.

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles also featured in the tournament but exited in the Round of 16 after a heavy loss to Argentina, falling short of matching Morocco’s remarkable achievement.
