Social critic and aide to the Delta State Governor, Mr. Jollof, has issued a video response and apology following his physical altercation with rival Very Dark Man (VDM) inside a United Nigeria aircraft at Asaba International Airport on Monday, November 17.
In his video, Mr. Jollof apologized to the NCAA, the Governor of Delta State (his boss), his family, and the passengers involved, stressing that he was only defending himself after VDM walked up to “harass him.”
He then claimed victory in the brawl, humorously detailing the force he exerted:
“To my lovely wife, I know you are proud of me. 3000 mg was sent and it was delivered. Not by muscles. To my kids, Daddy will never do this again. And to my boss, I am very sorry, this is not my kind of person, I was only trying to defend myself.”
Account of the Fight
Mr. Jollof explained that the confrontation began while he was seated, claiming VDM started making provocative comments after some passengers greeted Mr. Jollof. He alleged VDM told him:
“If we come down from this plane, I go slap you. Make God punish your papa. I fit commot from here now come slap you.”
Mr. Jollof said he responded by telling VDM to “Behave yourself.” He then claims VDM walked from his own seat to Mr. Jollof’s location, forcing him to immediately defend himself, which led to the fight.
Addressing the earlier report that he bit VDM during the scuffle, Mr. Jollof justified the action by citing boxing legend Mike Tyson:
“Mike Tyson the fighter, he used what God gave him. When you carry knife come gun battle, anything when you see you go take am.”
Both men were removed from the flight, and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has since launched an investigation.
