A Nigerian man, A B Rar, has given his reasons for marrying a second wife, saying that women should accept the ‘reality’ that men are naturally polygamous.
He stated this after another man complained that his wife has been snooping through his phone.
According to A B Rar, he married a second wife to get back at his first wife, who he claimed is overly jealous and viewed him as her personal possession.
“So in order to balance things I took a second wife. She got angry but she had no option than accepting her sister in the union. I now have my freedom without too many questions and making explanations. Women should just accept this reality that men are polygamous in nature,” he added.
Reacting to the comment, a marriage therapist, Shamseddin Giwa, said he married a second wife for the wrong reason and
“I’m sorry but this doesn’t add up. Jealousy is a human trait and yes, while it needs to be reasonable, it happens. You married another woman for the wrong reasons. If you doubt this, ask that second wife what she feels about being married just to curtail the jealousy of the first wife,” Giwa wrote.
“The freedom you believe you are experiencing is not freedom, it is the gradual depreciation of how much attention they used to give you which should tell you they are training themselves to stop feeling anything for you.
“I’m sorry brother, this is not something to be proud or happy about. You should actually be worried about it. Accountability is part of what makes one a responsible husband.
“Finally, men are polygamous by choice, nature has nothing to do with it. Please take care of your wives and begin to make amends immediately. I wish you the best.”
