American rapper Nicki Minaj sparked online discussion after sharing a photo of President Donald Trump’s “Gold Card” on Wednesday, January 28, hinting that she may have obtained the card that can expedite US citizenship.
Minaj had previously faced widespread criticism online in late 2025, when a petition demanding her deportation to Trinidad and Tobago went viral. The petition cited her alleged harassment of Beyoncé and Jay-Z, as well as her marriage to Kenneth Petty, as reasons for wanting her removed from the US.
Having moved to the United States from Trinidad and Tobago as a child, Minaj is a legal permanent resident. Despite paying substantial taxes over the years, she revealed in 2024 that she had not yet acquired US citizenship.
By late January 2026, however, the rapper confirmed she was actively pursuing citizenship, a process she accelerated after reportedly obtaining a Trump “Gold Card,” following her public endorsement of the former president.
In her post, Minaj simply captioned the photo of the card, “Welp…,” referring to the physical card, which Forbes reports requires a $1 million contribution to the US Treasury plus a $15,000 non-refundable processing fee.
The rapper also appeared to mock those who had signed the deportation petition and boasted about receiving the Trump Gold Card at no cost.
“Residency? Residency? The cope is coping. Finalising that citizenship paperwork as we speak as per MY wonderful, gracious, charming President. Thanks to the petition. I wouldn’t have done it without you. Oh CitizenNIKA you are thee moment. Gold Trump card free of charge.”
