Former Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo, has picked his best performer in the Super Eagles’ 4-0 win over Mozambique on Monday night.
While Ighalo believes that Ademola Lookman has been a stand out player in the current Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, he said that Fulham midfielder, Alex Iwobi did better than everyone in the last match.
Lookman has been involved in seven goals, which is more than any other player in the tournament.
Alongside Morocco’s Brahim Díaz and Egypt’s Mohamed Salah, the Atalanta forward has scored in every game he has played at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Atalanta player stood out again, winning two Player of the Match awards.
Recently, he got this honor after the Super Eagles beat Mozambique’s Mambas 4–0. In that game, he scored one goal and also set up two chances for his team.
As a pundit on SuperSport, 2019 Africa Cup of Nations top scorer, Odion Ighalo said that Lookman has been one of the best players for the Super Eagles since he changed his national team allegiance to the three-time African champions.
Ighalo said that he has been one of the top players for the Super Eagles for a long time and he is proving it in the match.
“I like the way he positions himself when the ball is on his side,” Ighalo said.
“If he’s not running along the wing to pass the ball, he’s always in the box and near the goal.
“When the opportunity comes, he always grabs it, and that’s one thing I really like about him. He’s one of the best players on that team.”
Even though he really likes Lookman, Ighalo praised Alex Iwobi for his strong performance in Nigeria’s big win against Mozambique.
Iwobi had three secondary assists in the game.
“Today I give it to Alex Iwobi because he engineered the midfield,” he said.
The Super Eagles will play against Algeria in the Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinals on Saturday.
