A Nigerian correctional officer, Michael Oluwapelumi Ademoye, has been arrested for allegedly attempting to smuggle drugs into a prison facility in Texas, United States.
The Wynne Unit correctional officer, who is employed with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) allegedly brought drug-treated paper into the prison to deliver to an inmate, according to a show-cause statement.
Ademoye, 28, of Huntsville, faces drug manufacturing or delivery and bribery charges following his September 26, 2026 arrest by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice’s Office of the Inspector General.
Walker County jail records show him held on a $100,000 bond for the drug charge and a $50,000 bond for bribery.
The statement alleges Ademoye entered the prison carrying more than 4 grams of paper treated with synthetic cannabinoids, commonly known as K2.
He told investigators he planned to deliver it to a specific inmate and had already been paid, the statement says.
Employment records show TDCJ hired Ademoye in April 2025.
In a June Facebook post, the Wynne Unit praised him and six other cadets for their “dedication and commitment,” saying they had quickly adapted to their roles and made a positive impact.
