A letter addressed to the Chief of Army Staff has surfaced, alleging severe misconduct and abuse by high-ranking Nigerian Army officials, including Major General G.S. Mohammed and Corporal A. Abubakar. The allegations, brought forward by legal firm Tom Uja & Co., demand the immediate dismissal of the accused officers and financial compensation of ₦150 million for the victims.

According to the petition, the victims, identified as Master Vershima Mker and Miss Lami Jennifer Iorvihi, were allegedly assaulted by the accused while preparing for their forthcoming wedding. The incident occurred in Gwarinpa, Abuja, where the couple was allegedly stopped and attacked by Major General Mohammed and his convoy after they pulled over to give way to the military entourage.

The letter outlines that the couple was subjected to physical abuse, including beatings that left Mr. Mker with severe injuries requiring specialized treatment and Miss Iorvihi with a fractured finger. The petition claims the victims were unlawfully detained at the Gwarinpa Police Station for eight hours, during which they were allegedly coerced into writing an apology to the Major General under duress before their release.

Tom Uja & Co. asserts that the incident constitutes a gross violation of the victims’ constitutional rights and has caused significant physical and psychological harm. The letter warns that failure to meet the demands by November 18, 2024, will result in the public release of video evidence and legal action against the Nigerian Army.

The victims’ legal representatives emphasized the need for accountability, urging the Army Chief to take swift action to uphold the integrity of the armed forces and justice for the victims.

The Nigerian Army has not yet responded to these allegations at the time of this report.
