Nigerian man hospitalized after being assaulted by his wife

A 56-year-old Nigerian man, Edwin Ugwu, has dragged his wife, Ebere to court for repeatedly assaulting him at the slightest provocation.

He also recalled being hospitalized on one occasion after being assaulted by his wife.

The police prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, who confirmed this, told the court that the couple who reside at Lambe Iluyomade Street, Ago Okota area of Lagos, had a disagreement which degenerated into physical assault. Ajayi said the wife assaulted her husband, leading to him being hospitalized.

The wife pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of assault and battery and the prosecutor asked the court to give a date for hearing.

The Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubenije, of Ogba magistrate court granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to June 6.
