Nigerians have expressed a range of reactions to reports of Ghanaian lawmakers challenging their president’s budget proposal. Discussions on platforms reveal that some Nigerians view this as a positive example of democratic accountability. For instance, a user commented, “This is true democracy in action.

This can never happen in Nigeria. In Nigeria, the budget would have been heavily padded and the entire lawmakers bribed before the president comes into the national assembly to present and defend it.”

Others, however, defended the Nigerian legislative process, arguing that lawmakers thoroughly review budget proposals and approve them based on their merits.

A user noted, “How can lawmakers collect bribe to approve budgets? When they intensively go through the budget and understand the need for the projects stated in the budget presented…”
