Akwa United head coach Paul Offor has admitted that his team failed to perform in their 3-1 defeat to Stormers SC in Abeokuta.
The Promise Keepers conceded two quick goals in the first half, scored by Stormers SC duo Lekan Ismai and Adegun Oluwaseun, before Ayeni Samson added the third in the second half.
Micheal Okenwa pulled one back as a consolation goal for Akwa United.
Offor admitted that elementary mistakes cost his side the defeat.
“I must admit that we had a bad outing in the match against Stormers SC. The boys switched off at crucial moments and that contributed to the goals we conceded,” Offor told Akwa United’s media.
“This is the first time we have conceded this number of goals in a single match and it’s painful because we are at the business end of the league.
“Despite conceding three goals, we also had our chances but we were not clinical enough and only managed to score one.”
Akwa United remain top of the NNL Conference B table with 22 points, one point clear of Sporting Lagos who played a 1-1 draw with Godswill Akpabio United on Monday.
