Popular Nigerian singer Michael Adebayo Olayinka, professionally known as Ruger, has reacted to the sudden death of Afrofuji artiste Destiny Boy, whose passing at the age of 22 has stunned fans and colleagues nationwide.
Destiny Boy reportedly died on Sunday, January 18, 2025, in Abeokuta, Ogun State. He is survived by his wife and a child he welcomed in November 2024.
The news of his death began trending after a disturbing video surfaced online showing the singer lying motionless in the backseat of a car, with wool inserted in his nostrils, as he was allegedly being taken to a mortuary. The video quickly went viral, triggering widespread confusion and speculation over the circumstances surrounding his death.
As of the time of this report, the cause of death has not been officially disclosed. Several unverified claims have circulated on social media, with some alleging that he died at the residence of a herbalist, while others claimed he fell ill earlier that day. None of these reports has been confirmed.
Reacting to the incident, Ruger took to X (formerly Twitter) to question the circumstances surrounding Destiny Boy’s death and the absence of a proper investigation. He expressed concern over how quickly the public moved on without seeking answers.
Ruger wrote:
“Bruh people will just post that someone has died and everyone will move on. W.tf caused his death, who was he with, what was the boy eating or drinking. No autopsy, NOTHING!!!! We just have to accept that he’s dead. My God RIP destiny boy💔“
In another post responding to a follower, the singer added:
“I agree but most deaths are caused by human beings so someone has to be held accountable my bro.”
Destiny Boy was widely regarded as one of the promising voices in the Afrofuji and Afrobeats scene, with many fans and colleagues describing his death as a painful loss to the music industry.
Meanwhile, more videos have continued to surface online. In one clip, voices alleged that the late singer vomited before his death and may have taken a local concoction. Others suggested poisoning, although no official confirmation has been given.
Another circulating video claimed that Fuji stars Pasuma and Saheed Osupa advised that Destiny Boy should not be buried yet, further fueling calls for clarity and proper investigation.
