Adamu Baikie, widely recognised as the first professor of education in Northern Nigeria, has died at the age of 94. The renowned academic passed away on Friday evening at his residence in Zaria, Kaduna State.

Professor Baikie was a highly respected educationist, scholar and university administrator who played a pioneering role in the development of education in Northern Nigeria. Over the course of his career, he served as vice chancellor in several universities within Nigeria and abroad, contributing significantly to higher education administration and policy.

His death was confirmed on Friday,  December 12, by his eldest son, Major Muhammad Adamu (retd), in a conversation with Daily Trust.

According to Major Adamu, the late professor is survived by five children. He added that arrangements for the funeral prayers and burial rites would be announced at a later time.
